Boeing Announces Big Layoffs in Defense Division...
And so it begins....
Boeing, the Pentagon's second-largest supplier, said the changes were the latest step in an affordability drive that has already reduced the company's costs by $2.2 billion since 2010, according to the memo.
The measures come as U.S. weapons makers are under pressure to cut costs and preserve profit margins amid dwindling defense spending in the U.S.

Obama's Layoff Bomb .......
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported last Tuesday that employers issued 1,316 "mass layoff actions" (affecting 50 workers or more) in September; more than 122,000 workers were affected overall. USA Today financial reporter Matt Krantz wrote that "(m)uch of the recent layoff activity is connected to what's been the slowest period of earnings growth since the third quarter of 2009." Some necessary restructuring is underway in response to the stagnant European economy. But more and more U.S. businesses are putting the blame -- bravely and squarely -- right where it belongs: on the obstructionist policies and regulatory schemes of the blame-shifter-in-chief.

CEO Explains Why He Warned Employees About Voting For Obama....
When pressed by the CNBC hosts on why he felt that an Obama second term would be devastating to his company, Siegel stated:
“This is not speculation – I have lived the last four years under the Obama administration and I’ve watched my company be cut in half… We‘re very profitable and I don’t want to go through another four years under the Obama administration where I have to downsize again.”

A Huge Victory for a Principled Mitt Romney .....
Mitt Romney politely cleaned Barack Obama’s clock tonight. A lethargic and at times tired looking President Obama was out-hustled, out-facted, out-energized, and out-informed by Former Governor Mitt Romney. Completely unlike Romney’s convention speech, tonight he focused on strong economic issues, developed his philosophy of limited government, and convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is in fact a pro-growth tax reformer who wants to lower the rate, and broaden the base in a revenue-neutral fashion that will actually create jobs and spur the economy.

New Jobless Claims Report Shows Businesses Aren’t Hiring.....
Employers added a paltry 96,000 jobs last month, 9,000 of which were striking utilities workers returning to work, below the 141,000 in July and much lower than the average 226,000 added in the first three months of the year. Recent job gains are barely enough to keep up with the growth of the working age population and aren’t enough to rapidly drive down unemployment.

More Americans Than Forecast Filed Jobless Claims .....
“The problems are more on the hiring side than the layoffs side,” said Ryan Sweet, a senior economist at Moody’s Analytics Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania, who projected a rise to 385,000 claims. “If they panic and start cutting workers, that would raise an immediate red flag because layoffs would be a recipe for another recession.”

Alpha Natural Resources Announces it Will Close Eight Mines and Layoff 1K Workers .....
More recovery at work......
Crutchfield called it “a difficult day,” but said the shutdowns and layoffs are a necessary part of ensuring Alpha survives in what has become a difficult U.S. market, where coal companies face a dual challenge: a shift towards natural gas and “a regulatory environment that’s aggressively aimed at constraining the use of coal.”
