Bush Reconsidered ......

Yet, as with all presidents, with time and a successor come perspective. So it is not hard to see why the out-of-office Bush’s likability ratings are slowly inching back up — most recently to 46 percent. For reflection on Bush’s eight years in office, take a look back at the six aspects of his presidency that harmed his popularity most — Iraq and its attendant controversies, the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, the so-called Bush-Cheney anti-terrorism protocols, the September 2008 financial meltdown, the chronic budget deficits, and the general impression that Bush was singularly inarticulate and prone to embarrassing gaffes.

Tax-and-‘Patriotism’ prez ....

“We should ask the wealthiest Americans to pay a little more, a modest amount,” Obama said recently. “There are a lot of well-to-do Americans, patriotic Americans, who understand this and are willing to do the right thing.”

(Let’s not quibble as to whether raising income tax rates by more than 10 percent — not to mention capital gains taxes jumping from 15 percent to around 23 percent — is “a little.”)

In Obama’s America there are two groups: The “patriotic” folks who support higher taxes. And those who don’t. That’s the unpatriotic group. They don’t love their country as much as people who support tax hikes.

Trailer Talk: 'Zero Dark Thirty' Embraces Patriotism, Soldiers as Heroes.....

The odd thing about the trailer is how ... patriotic it all feels. Can anyone imagine the film hitting theaters, with such fanfare, no less, had bin Laden been killed on President George W. Bush's watch?

Conservatives should rightly applaud "Zero Dark Thirty" should it live up to the trailer no matter who was in the Oval Office making the call. No sucker punches against our troops, shots of American flags stripped of irony. Heroes getting the job that needs to be done done.

To Get Past "47 Percent": It's the Culture, Stupid!

Get with it, Romney team. The public may be somewhat ignorant (i.e., may not follow issues and thus may not know information that all of us activists know), but the public isn't dumb. It can absorb economic arguments and ALSO take in cultural arguments at the same time.

Or does anyone not think that hunters in Ohio and Wisconsin and in the Blue Ridge in Virginia will fail to respond to effective reminders of how anti-2nd Amendment was the position of the Obama administration in the Heller case? Can anybody doubt that suburban moms won't respond negatively to news that the Obama Education Department is moving to undermine school discipline by requiring a quota system for suspensions and expulsions rather than basing punishment on the actual incidence of violations?

It really is the culture, stupid.

Hey kids! Let's have a Constitutional Convention!....

I've been reading about this guy and his proposal....good lord......

And do we need a new Constitution replete with all sorts of new "positive" rights, the likely loss of Second Amendment protections, and probably the vast expansion of federal power all to solve a budget crisis brought about by political gridlock? Seems to me that Levinson wants to use a nuclear bomb to kill a gnat. We don't need a new constitution to balance the budget - but a constitutional amendment would be in order.

And that's really the point. The Constitution makes it possible to fix what ails us through the amendment process. Is it hard to accomplish? Rightly so. The founders didn't want their descendants mucking up their handiwork unless it was deemed necessary by the vast majority of the people.

NEVER FORGET....9/11/01

On Sept. 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed on America’s worst day of terrorism as 19 al-Qaida terrorists hijacked four passenger jetliners. Two planes smashed into New York’s World Trade Center, causing the twin towers to fall; one plowed into the Pentagon; and the fourth crashed into a field in western Pennsylvania.
