The newly released Washington Post/ABC News poll of likely voters says that if the election were held today, Democrats would enjoy a 9-point advantage over Republicans in voter turnout (35 to 26 percent), and President Obama would beat Mitt Romney by 3 percentage points (49 to 46 percent). The good news for Romney is that, to be able to cut a 9-point disadvantage in voter turnout to just a 3-point deficit in votes, he must be doing awfully well with independents. The bad news for Obama is that it’s very hard to find corroborating evidence of this massive Democratic edge.

Charlene Lamb Refuses to Call Libya Attackers ‘Terrorists’ ......

During Wednesday’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.) questioned Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Programs Charlene Lamb about her apparent refusal to call the people who attacked the U.S. Consulate in Libya and killed four Americans “terrorists.”

“You Miss Lamb…have described these attackers in a number of ways but you don’t mention terrorist at all. Why is that? I mean the compound had been attacked once before and breached,” Burton said. “And these people had all these weapons; projectiles, grenades, all kinds of weapons. Why would you call this anything other than a terrorist attack? And why do you call them attackers?”

Joe Biden’s biggest adversary on that debate platform will be…Joe Biden. This guy could screw up a cup of coffee, as evidenced by his oddball remarks at the signing of Obamacare (“this is a BFD”), his claims Republicans would put people “back in chains” and his forcing President Obama into announcing his flip-flop on marriage prematurely.

Steve Scalise, the president has responded to the August landfall of Hurricane Isaac, which devastated several parishes in Louisiana, by requiring local governments to provide the maximum allowable 25 percent matching funds to receive their federal aid, instead of the 10 percent match that served as the Bush administration’s guideline in the aftermath of Katrina.

Plaquemines Parish, which was particularly hard hit by Isaac and whose residents had to evacuate to escape the effects of storm surge, is one area whose Stafford Act requirements Obama has declined to waive.

Unlike the 2008 debate pitting Biden against then Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Biden won’t have to tread carefully this time to avoid the appearance of attacking a female counterpart. Ryan said he expects Biden to come “flying at us” like a “cannonball” on Thursday. Biden is considered a skilled debater with an everyman charm.

Steve Schmidt, a former top adviser to Sen. John McCain, told Politico he expects Biden to try to seize the offensive, predicting he will “be bringing his proverbial nun chucks and brass knuckles.”

Billionaires Dumping Stocks, Economist Knows Why....

In the latest filing for Buffett’s holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been drastically reducing his exposure to stocks that depend on consumer purchasing habits. Berkshire sold roughly 19 million shares of Johnson & Johnson, and reduced his overall stake in “consumer product stocks” by 21%. Berkshire Hathaway also sold its entire stake in California-based computer parts supplier Intel.

With 70% of the U.S. economy dependent on consumer spending, Buffett’s apparent lack of faith in these companies’ future prospects is worrisome.

Unfortunately Buffett isn’t alone.

Sesame Street received $1 mil stimulus bill grant – created “1.47″ jobs |.....

 The projected created “1.47″ new jobs, the website reported. How they could calculate this to a hundredth of a percent is anybody’s guess. In any event, that comes out to about $726,000 per job created.

The money is separate from the funds Sesame Workshop receives from the federally-funded Corporation for Public Broadcasting to run the Sesame Street program on PBS stations.
