Bill aimed to stem global warming, create jobs

God save us all...............

Bill aimed to stem global warming, create jobs:

Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman unveiled a long-awaited bill Wednesday that aims to curtail pollution blamed for global warming, reduce oil imports and create millions of energy-related jobs.

The 987-page bill, the product of more than seven months of negotiations and tweaked recently in response to the Gulf oil spill, also includes new protections for offshore drilling and for the first time would set a price on carbon dioxide emissions produced by coal-fired power plants and other large polluters.

The legislation aims to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases by 17 percent by 2020 and by more than 80 percent by 2050. Both targets are measured against 2005 levels and are the same as those set by a House bill approved last year."

RealClearPolitics - Depression 2010?

RealClearPolitics - Depression 2010?:

WASHINGTON -- It is now conventional wisdom that the world has avoided a second Great Depression. Governments and the economists who advise them learned the lessons of the 1930s. When the gravity of the financial crisis became apparent in late 2008, the response was swift and aggressive. Central banks like the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank dropped interest rates and lent liberally to threatened financial institutions and rattled investors. The United States and many countries approved 'stimulus' programs of tax cuts and additional spending. Panic was halted. A downward spiral of falling private spending and rising unemployment was reversed. The resulting economic slump was awful. But it was not another Great Depression. The worst has passed."

American Thinker: President Hamlet's Energy Policy

American Thinker: President Hamlet's Energy Policy:

Obama is proving to be as indecisive on energy policy as he is on so many other things. He is a leader as indecisive as Hamlet.

Consider his actions on Afghanistan. Obama ran on the promise of making Afghanistan the focus of our military efforts, claiming it was, unlike Iraq, a legitimate and important war. But when the new general Obama selected to conduct that war recommended a decisive surge, Obama spent months in agonizing deliberation, and then sent only a portion of the troops his general had requested."

American Thinker: Welcome to the Era of Expensive Energy

American Thinker: Welcome to the Era of Expensive Energy:

Gas prices are marching steadily upwards -- past three dollars at my local suburban station and a couple of dimes more than that in Chicago. Why? Part of the rise is seasonal in nature: demand increases going into summer to fill up those cars going on family vacations. Also, as summer proceeds into fall, refineries start refining more heating oil from crude and less gasoline. Part of the rise can be attributed to the lack of refineries in America -- government rules and regulations (and the NIMBY-Not In My Backyard dynamic) have halted the building of American refineries."

American Thinker: Will the GOP Wake Up and Smell the Tea?

American Thinker: Will the GOP Wake Up and Smell the Tea?:

It's a painful thing to imagine Robert Bennett over the past few days, sitting alone in a darkened room, staring off into space wondering what hit him and whistling Nick Cave's 'There She Goes My Beautiful World' over and over again.

It happened quickly. Events in politics aren't supposed to happen that quickly. It came out of nowhere, with next to no warning at all. Even a few weeks ago, there was little sign that Bennett was in trouble. Then the spirit of 2010 suddenly rose out the darkness and took him down."

Barack Obama plans to punish BP with tax hike as Gulf spill worsens - Times Online

And who exactly does he think is going to pay for this...BP?

Barack Obama plans to punish BP with tax hike as Gulf spill worsens - Times Online:

Oil companies face an immediate tax rise of 1 cent per barrel to help to pay for the clean-up in the Gulf of Mexico under proposed legislation rushed out by the White House yesterday.

The measure, unveiled as BP began a new attempt to contain the ruptured well that has leaked millions of gallons of crude oil into America’s southern coastal waters, would put an extra $500 million (340 million) over ten years into the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, which covers damage caused by such disasters."

Arizona Governor bans ethnic studies program

OUTSTANDING!

Arizona Governor bans ethnic studies program:

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has courted fresh controversy by signing a bill banning an ethnic studies program, just weeks after approving the state's tough new immigration law.

Brewer approved a bill late Tuesday, promoted by the state's schools boss, Tom Horne, who has said that the program run by the Tucson school district promotes a 'destructive ethnic chauvinism.'

Tucson school officials have insisted the program only aims to provide students with courses about the role of minorities in historical events such as the Vietnam war or literature courses featuring Latino authors."

Obama to Limbaugh:go play with yourself - NYPOST.com

Obama to Limbaugh:go play with yourself - NYPOST.com:

When President Obama was asked if he would play a round of golf with his talk-radio nemesis Rush Limbaugh, the response, relayed by a top Democrat, was: 'Limbaugh can play with himself.'

This is according to Zev Chafets in his new book, 'Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One,' due May 25 from Sentinel.

The caustic comeback is another example of the verbal venom between the White House and the conservative radio star. In an interview with CBS News last month, Obama called the views spelled out by Limbaugh and Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck 'troublesome.'"

CBO ups health care cost projections - Jennifer Haberkorn - POLITICO.com

My...my...my.......REALLY! Who woulda thunk? And today they'll start pushing Cap & Trade....lord only knows what that'll cost the US - for a totally failed policy and science. Of course, it was never about the science or the Earth...it was all about lining Washington's pockets....

CBO ups health care cost projections - Jennifer Haberkorn - POLITICO.com:

Congressional Budget Office estimates released Tuesday predict the health care overhaul will likely cost about $115 billion more in discretionary spending over ten years than the original cost projections.

The additional spending — if approved over the years by Congress — would bring the total estimated cost of the overhaul to over $1 trillion.

Republicans pounced on the news, which they called another sign that the Obama administration makes promises it cannot deliver."

Conservative Call to Arms | FrontPage Magazine:

Jim DeMint: David, thank you so much. Gosh, it’s so encouraging to me to see all of you here.

I wish I could tell you how important it is when people come together, particularly conservatives. David makes an excellent point — that conservatives are out there working, raising families — I mean, they don’t have time to do this kind of stuff. It’s only people who want to control our lives who come together. But when people do it, I know it’s a sacrifice. And for you to come together, create that critical mass, it’s so encouraging to me. I mean, so many of you have said thank you to me tonight. But I’m really here to thank you."

CNBC’s Rick Santelli Rips Key Democrat For Ignoring Fannie/Freddie Reform | Republican Leader John Boehner

First it was "Too Big to Fail"...now it's "Too complicated to Address...???!!!"

CNBC’s Rick Santelli Rips Key Democrat For Ignoring Fannie/Freddie Reform | Republican Leader John Boehner:

Democrats still don’t get it, and they refuse to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government mortgage companies that sparked the meltdown by giving high-risk loans to people who couldn’t afford it. Standing up for American taxpayers, CNBC’s on-air editor, Rick Santelli teed off on Rep. Paul Kanjorski’s (D-PA) claim that Democrats’ couldn’t reform Fannie & Freddie in their financial regulation bill because it was “too complicated,” asking: “It’s too complicated? You think taxpayers that go to work to pay the money you are subsidizing, it will end up a half a trillion, do you think they think complicated is an excuse?”"
