Reuel Marc Gerecht on Interrogating the CIA - WSJ.com
My family, my grandchildren, my military...were ever threatened...I'd do everything I could to get the info I needed....EVERYTHING. I pray there are REAL Jack Bauer's out there protecting us in spite of ourselves!
Reuel Marc Gerecht on Interrogating the CIA - WSJ.com:
A clever, streetwise classmate of mine at the Central Intelligence Agency's junior officer training program—a former Delta Force officer—quickly and rudely discovered that counterterrorism in the much-vaunted Reagan years wasn't a serious endeavor at Langley. He had original and provocative ideas on using physical force to scare the bejesus out of terrorist suspects who had American blood on their hands. Although the CIA was then filling up with operatives pretending to be engaged against a growing terrorist menace, Langley's counterterrorist data bank and real operational planning were near zero. My friend's ideas were too unsettling. He resigned. By the time I resigned in 1994, CIA counterterrorism had become an inflexible, lumbering creature, incapable of countering the wicked anti-American forces gaining strength in the Middle East."

American Thinker: CIA Investigation insanity
Amen!!!
American Thinker: CIA Investigation insanity:
Flashback to 9/11 and imagine the reaction if George Bush stood with the firemen amid the smoldering ruins and said the United States government will prosecute CIA interrogators for blowing cigar smoke in the face of the terrorist masterminds. The Bush administration would have been overthrown by the Honduran military. Seven years later and all common sense seems to be going up in smoke. Long gone are the images of Green Berets on horseback. Ranches, action heroes, and slap shots are out. Social media massages are in. The quitters can eat a hockey puck. The White House is white, not the American flag."

American Thinker: Health care is not a group service
American Thinker: Health care is not a group service:
Healthcare is a personal service, not a group service such as National Defense, Law Enforcement, and Fire Suppression. Each of those entities do not serve the individual, they serve the community as a whole. The police are under no obligation to protect you personally; if you need that, you need to hire someone. Fire departments suppress fire for the good of the area; if your building needs to be sacrificed so be it. Should you need better protection, again, you need to have your own equipment and staff. The Armed Forces? Well, 9/11 should tell you that even with their protection from foreign threats you are far from personally protected from harm."

Obama and ‘Redistributive Change’ by Victor Davis Hanson on National Review Online:
The first seven months of the Obama administration seemingly make no sense. Why squander public approval by running up astronomical deficits in a time of pre-existing staggering national debt?
Why polarize opponents after promising bipartisan transcendence?
Why create vast new programs when the efficacy of big government is already seen as dubious?
But that is exactly the wrong way to look at these first seven months of Obamist policy-making."

Bill would give president emergency control of Internet | Politics and Law - CNET News:
Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.
They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency."

RUSH: Oh, and they found something in the House bill. 'One of the problems...' This from CBS News. 'One of the problems with any proposed law that's over 1,000 pages long and constantly changing is that much deviltry can lie in the details. Take the Democrats' proposal to rewrite health care policy, better known as H.R. 3200 ... Section 431(a) of the bill says that the IRS must divulge taxpayer identity information, including the filing status, the modified adjusted gross income, the number of dependents, and other information as is prescribed by regulation. That information will be provided to the new Health Choices Commissioner and state health programs and used to determine who qualifies for 'affordability credits.''"

American Thinker: Obama's Road to Healthcare Serfdom:
President Obama is desperate to pass sweeping healthcare reform and now has resorted to pure socialist rhetoric to encourage Americans to support his plan. In his Saturday radio and internet address, President Obama encouraged Americans to call upon 'what's best in each of us to make life better for all of us.' Fortunately, an accurate account of history and a long line of great thinkers point out the contradiction in the President's remark, which is an obvious appeal for Socialism."

We are berated, ad nauseam, with imprecations that America is the only advanced nation that fails to have universal health care. This statement is often followed by the rueful remark that the debate over government controlled health care has been going on without progress for 60 years and, ipso facto, it is time to settle it.
All right, let's do that. Let's look a little deeper. Why is there no settlement of the issue, and why is America unique in its obstinate reluctance to follow the example of our older cultural brothers in Europe?"

Though a little scandal might alienate advertisers, it’s pure ratings gold. Last night Glenn Beck had over 3 million viewers at 5pm, second only to O’Reilly for the night. But, Beck had more 25-54 viewers than O’Reilly (888K to 876K). I don’t watch or really even care about the cable news wars, but still…wow. Global warming is a complicated subject. It therefore takes a lot of hubris or ignorance to think you can explain either the 'for' or 'against' case in a few hundred words. But I stumbled onto some data that meets my 'keen grasp of the obvious' threshold for understanding.

There is now just one group of people exempt from President Obama's worldwide ban on torture: the men and women of the CIA.
By authorizing Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special prosecutor to determine whether a full criminal investigation of CIA employees and contractors is warranted for the manner in which they interrogated captured terrorists, the President has thrown his power and support behind those far-left ideologues -- in Congress and elsewhere -- who believe that the CIA is a bigger threat to our country than al Qaeda."

American Thinker Blog: Is Glenn Beck Allowed to Believe Obama is a Racist?:
Glenn Beck Loses Advertisers Over ‘Racist’ Remark,” is the news headline the left is relishing in. The animation over Beck’s remarks in stating that he believes President Obama has a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” is a little curious on a couple of counts.
First, normally when you hear of someone having made a racist remark the remark contains a form of derision from which one might conclude that the person is a racist. For example, in 1984 when Jesse Jackson referred to Jews as “Hymies,” many concluded that Jackson was a racist. If Jackson had stated that he believed a particular Jewish person was a racist, no one would have concluded that Jackson was a racist or had made “racist remarks.” The subject of his remark would have been examined to see whether Jackson’s opinion was true."

It is amusing to see media outlets display shock over the Obama Justice Department's announcement regarding an appointment of a prosecutor to probe CIA interrogation tactics. Back in 2008, I blogged at Newsbusters that Mr. Obama told a radio interviewer in 2007 that his Attorney General would investigate Bush executive orders. Naked Emperor News first uncovered the the KJFK radio interview between then Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and host Christiane Brown. Here's an excerpt(emphasis is mine:)"

So we are to have a French health-care system without a French tradition of political protest. It is odd that American liberalism, in a veritable state of insurrection during the Bush presidency, now seeks political quiescence. These 'townhallers' who have come forth to challenge ObamaCare have been labeled 'evil-mongers' (Harry Reid), 'un-American' (Nancy Pelosi), agitators and rowdies and worse."

David Schoenbrod and Richard B. Stewart: The Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade Bill is a Fraud - WSJ.com:
As a candidate for president in April 2008, Barack Obama told Fox News that “a cap-and-trade system is a smarter way of controlling pollution” than “top-down” regulation. He was right. With cap and trade the market decides where and how to cut emissions. With top-down regulation, as Mr. Obama explained, regulators dictate “every single rule that a company has to abide by, which creates a lot of bureaucracy and red tape and often-times is less efficient.”"

White House projects bigger deficits, bigger debt - Yahoo! News:
WASHINGTON – The federal government faces exploding deficits and mounting debt over the next decade, White House officials predicted Tuesday in a fiscal assessment far bleaker than what the Obama administration had estimated just a few months ago.
Figures released by the White House budget office foresee a cumulative $9 trillion deficit from 2010-2019, $2 trillion more than the administration estimated in May. Moreover, the figures show the public debt doubling by 2019 and reaching three-quarters the size of the entire national economy."

During the presidential campaign, Barack Obama’s supporters promised that his election would allow America to “transcend race.' Among the headlines:
The Boston Globe: 'Obama shows an ability to transcend race”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “Obama's success suggests we can transcend race”
But of course that hasn’t happened. Jonah Goldberg writes:"

ALBANY — Nineteen months after ending his disastrous run for the presidency, Rudolph W. Giuliani is clearing a path for a possible race for governor in 2010, believing public anger at an ineffectual Albany and unease over the economy could create ideal conditions for a Republican to reclaim the governor’s mansion."

The Weekly Standard
The Weekly Standard: Dick Cheney on CIA Documents
The documents released Monday clearly demonstrate that the individuals subjected to Enhanced Interrogation Techniques provided the bulk of intelligence we gained about al Qaeda. This intelligence saved lives and prevented terrorist attacks. These detainees also, according to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of al Qaeda members and associates since 2002. The activities of the CIA in carrying out the policies of the Bush Administration were directly responsible for defeating all efforts by al Qaeda to launch further mass casualty attacks against the United States. The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions. President Obama’s decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration’s ability to be responsible for our nation’s security."

American Thinker Blog: Now There You Go Again -- More Whoppers from Obama:
President Obama has assembled another whopper meal for those who still hunger for more baloney and believe he will not tell a lie. His latest installment in the chaotic galaxy of his contradictory assertions is a virtual chain of the same tired and monotonous half-truths and falsehoods, linked by folksy wee-wee, and sprinkled with the 'I' pronoun. The President has already demonstrated that he is utterly ignorant of the facts of medical care. It actually makes you wonder if he has really read the bill himself.
He begins by stating that insurance costs have increased much faster than wages, ignoring the fact that most health insurance is provided by employers and it is tax-free wages, in the form of an employee benefit, and that the reason so many are losing their insurance right now is the unemployment aggravated by Obama's economic failures."

American Thinker: A Presidential Learning Moment:
The chaos surrounding proposed healthcare legislation offers President Obama the opportunity for a learning moment. The question is: What insight, if any, will he glean from it?
Barack Obama is educated in the street skills of an inner city community organizer. In that venue, he didn't focus on the plight of a particular constituency in distress -- not on the male alcoholic street people, not on the drug addicted, nor on abused women, nor unwed teenage mothers without shelter. Instead he aimed to organize a community to push for asbestos removal, to advocate a local job-training office, to push for potholes to be filled and stop signs put up. The scope of his focus testifies to a fundamental navet, perhaps attributable to his youth. Aim small, hit small. Aim wide, miss wide. His disappointment was inevitable."

1,200 veterans wrongly told they got fatal disease
And you want these people taking care of all our health care???....except of course theirs, because they are so much more "special" than we mere mortals and deserve so much more....
1,200 veterans wrongly told they got fatal disease:
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - At least 1,200 veterans across the country have been mistakenly told by the Veterans Administration that they suffer from a fatal neurological disease.
One of the leaders of a Gulf War veterans group says panicked veterans from Alabama, Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming have contacted the group about the error.
Denise Nichols, the vice president of the National Gulf War Resource Center, says the VA is blaming a coding error for the mistake.
Letters dated Aug. 12 were intended to notify veterans who have Lou Gehrig's disease of disability benefits available to them.
Calls to the VA were not immediately returned Monday."

Our unfunded liability for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is close to $100 trillion. Is there any way to pay for these programs without bankrupting America?
- We are in so much debt, why spend more borrowed money on cap-and-trade and healthcare programs before we stop the flow of red-ink?
- The stimulus package funneled billions of dollars to ACORN. How does giving billions of dollars to ACORN stimulate the economy?"
