UN panel: New taxes needed for a climate fund - Yahoo! News:
BONN, Germany – Carbon taxes, add-ons to international air fares and a levy on cross-border money movements are among ways being considered by a panel of the world's leading economists to raise a staggering $100 billion a year to fight climate change.

Gave Medicare 12 years of security? How....let's think...OH YEAH...by the sweat off OUR backs!
Social Security in the red this year - Washington Times:
Social Security will pay out more this year than it gets in payroll taxes, marking the first time since the program will be in the red since it was overhauled in 1983, according to the annual authoritative report released Thursday by the program's actuary.
Meanwhile President Obama's health care overhaul has given Medicare's basic Hospital Insurance an extra 12 years of financial stability, though it did not solve all of the program's long-term challenges."

WASHINGTON -- There is an awful lot of blowzy thought swirling around the proposed mosque to be raised two blocks from Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. Frankly, I doubt that at any other time in our history, such a debate would be taking place. People would know that when thugs intoning 'Allahu Akbar' have slaughtered hundreds of innocent Americans on American soil, it is inappropriate to raise a mosque nearby. The majority of Americans alive today know this. Polling indicates that with them it is a nonstarter. Now the Anti-Defamation League's national director, Abraham H. Foxman, has weighed in on the side of good sense. One hopes this debate is coming to an end."

The Next Nuclear Nightmare | FrontPage Magazine:
As the U.S. and the international community enact additional sanctions against Iran, another rogue nation’s potential nuclear ambitions are raising increased global concern. For much of the past decade, intelligence officials have been warning that Burma (also referred to as Myanmar) may be actively seeking nuclear capabilities. While this is troubling, equally disturbing is the isolated nation’s entrenched military relationship with North Korea. This kinship, combined with substandard living conditions that the inefficient and secretive Burmese junta has created for its 55 million residents, makes Burma the next big international menace."

'We've always given to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation as far back as anyone can remember,' said Greg Martin, GM spokesman. 'Our commitment remains unabated, and we continue to be a proud supporter of their work to advance economic development in communities throughout the U.S.'"

When the DOJ argues that S.B. 1070 'will impose significant and counterproductive burdens on federal agencies' what they mean is that the ICE operated Law Enforcement Support Center in Williston, Vermont could get a lot more phone calls from Arizona. So it could blow the overtime budget of DHS. This is an administrative issue, not a constitutional one. Perhaps it will cause some inconvenience for the feds. But let us never confuse inconvenience with unconstitutionality."

For the last few years, federal agencies have defended body scanning by insisting that all images will be discarded as soon as they're viewed. The Transportation Security Administration claimed last summer, for instance, that 'scanned images cannot be stored or recorded.'

That first war against Saddam Hussein—or if you prefer, the first phase of the war against Saddam—ended with the Iraqi dictator barely clinging to power and U.S. forces taking up long-term residence in the region. But that was only the beginning, as many of us warned at the time. U.S. forces would return to Iraq in 2003 to finish what was left undone. It's the summer of John Kerry's $7-million yacht and Chelsea Clinton's fairy-tale $2-million wedding at a faux-Versailles estate in New York. Throw in the First Family's royal progress from one tony vacation spot to another, and even the Boston Globe mutters about Marie Antoinette.

Hear! Hear! this is an excellent assessment!
The GOP governors who 'get it' - NYPOST.com:
For adults, look to the states. Look in particular to New Jersey and Indiana, where Govs. Chris Christie and Mitch Daniels are forging a limited-government Republicanism that connects with people and solves problems. They are models of how to take inchoate dissatisfaction with the status quo, launder it through political talent and apply it in a practical way to governance.
Christie has just concluded a six-month whirlwind through Trenton that should be studied by political scientists for years. In tackling a fiscal crisis in a state groaning under an $11 billion deficit, he did people the favor of being as forthright as a punch in the mouth. And it worked."

I understand what he is saying - however these aren't Guest Workers like those he sites within the article...they are ILLEGAL immigrants.
Again I state the process to become a citizen is a wreck and above ALL should be addresses and fixed ASAP....however....
These kids are not without country. They are born to citizens of another country. They are then citizens of THAT country.
I ask why is it that the word Illegal only pertains to citizens of this country? WHY?
We'd ( citizens ) pay dearly for flouting the law like this...but not those coming across our border illegally.
They don't have to prove who they are, and yet I have to pull out my license about 5 times a day. And I'm fine with that. BUT I WAS BORN HERE and I have to do this......the hypocrisy and double standards are insane.
Birthright citizenship – to hell with the Constitution! | The Daily Caller :
So now we have a second Republican Senator calling for the “revoking” of birthright citizenship in the U.S.– in other words another GOP luminary who wants to copy progressive places such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, countries that deny citizenship — and even birth certificates — to tens of thousands of children born to foreign workers, rendering them stateless and vulnerable and at risk of a life of official non-existence.
That was the policy Germany followed until 1999, when German law was modified finally to recognize the principle of jus soli (“the right of soil”), replacing the blood connection principle that German citizenship required previously."

Concerns voiced over protection of soldiers’ voting rights | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment
This is borderline INSANE...never mind despicable....the very people who are called upon to possibly make that last measure of devotion for this country-those who preserve OUR right to vote freely ( unless there are Black Panthers in the vicinity!?). We are so lazy as a Nation these days. LAZY. How many vote? Maybe ten minutes out of your day twice a year if that....and we can't be bothered.
However we ask these folks - most just kids....to make sure that right is preserved with their blood "just in case" we find the time in our busy schedule to bother voting.
I KNOW most of the choices are gawd-awful....perhaps that's because you never bothered....?
Concerns voiced over protection of soldiers’ voting rights | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment: "As the election season gears up and the races grow more contentious, the aphorism “every vote counts” will become evermore consequential.
Since the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Congress has purportedly worked to guarantee that every eligible American has the right to vote. This has not been the case, however, for our men and women in uniform.
The Election Assistance Commission reports that during the 2008 election, 17,000 American soldiers fighting overseas had their votes thrown out. According to J. Christian Adams, a former attorney for the Department of Justice’s Voting Rights Division, that year only an estimated 17% of deployed troops actually had their votes counted."

How things have changed for Michigan congressional candidate Dan Benishek | The Daily Caller:
Oh how things have changed for Dr. Dan Benishek.
The Republican, appearing on the ballot today for the Michigan congressional seat that’s long been held by Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak, didn’t have a website, campaign staff or much of a war chest before March 21.
But then Stupak — a pro-lifer who was the last hope for those wanting President Obama’s health-care bill to die — voted for the sweeping overhaul of the nation’s health-care system. Hundreds of people vented their frustration with Stupak by donating money — often 5 or 10 dollars — to Benishek, a physician and first-time candidate."

I was lucky enough to attend a "Bold Fresh" show last Saturday in Westbury, NY with Beck and O'Reilly. I have never been a big fan of Bill. I just always found him arrogant....for lack of a better word.

The Anti-Defamation League has gone on record to criticize the building of the proposed mosque and community center complex, known as Cordoba House, near Ground Zero. It did the right thing, for all of the reasons that I have discussed in previous posts.
The issue is not religious tolerance, freedom of religion or bigotry, as the apologists for Cordoba House would have us believe. Rather, the issue is the real intent of those who insist that Cordoba House be constructed near what many Americans consider to be a sacred memorial site."

The Office of Management of Budget published its Mid-Session Review July 23, forecasting Federal outlays and tax revenue to 2020. Obama has locked the country into dangerously high structural deficits that will persist even after the economy resumes normal growth."

American Thinker Blog: The changing face of gun ownership:
Gun ownership was once shunned by many Americans, secure in the assumption that we live in an ordered society. But I keep running into people who have changed their views on personal firearms possession, and bought guns.
Events such as Hurricane Katrina contributed to this trend. While the stories of mayhem in the wake of Katrina may have been exaggerated by an irresponsible media that reported wild rumors as fact, many citizens quickly came to realize that civilization can be a thin veneer and the police won't always be there when needed."

Between now and the November elections, the biggest political fight in the US is likely to be about taxes. Unless Congress acts, big tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 during George Bush’s presidency will expire at the end of the year. With the recovery faltering, Republicans and Democrats understand that reversing all of the cuts so soon is a bad idea, but this is where their agreement stops."

Mexican Drug Cartel Allegedly Puts a Price on Arizona Sheriff's Head
I agree that there are good people caught in gawd awful antiquated immigration policies. I have had friends caught in the morass....however....
When you see things like this...or those nitwits running across the Arizona Diamondbacks field waving a MEXICAN FLAG - not American...not both - ( perhaps indicating they want to be here and become AMERICANS )...but JUST a Mexican flag.....this is why everyone has had enough. You, as a foreigner in Mexico, can't drop a pencil without paperwork...

On the day parts of Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is in the news for another reason: there's a price on his head - allegedly offered by a Mexican drug cartel.
The audio message in Spanish is a bit garbled, but the text is clear."

Asset Forfeiture Report
Asset Forfeiture Report:
Civil forfeiture laws represent one of the most serious assaults on private property rights in the nation today. Under civil forfeiture, police and prosecutors can seize your car or other property, sell it and use the proceeds to fund agency budgets—all without so much as charging you with a crime. Unlike criminal forfeiture, where property is taken after its owner has been found guilty in a court of law, with civil forfeiture, owners need not be charged with or convicted of a crime to lose homes, cars, cash or other property.
Americans are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but civil forfeiture turns that principle on its head. With civil forfeiture, your property is guilty until you prove it innocent."

But you may not have heard about civil forfeiture. And yet, today, it could very well be the most egregious abuse of private property rights in America.

Since its completion this spring, the totem pole has traveled throughout many communities in Southeast Alaska during the census data collection process.
