There has been a flurry of speculation over an event in Anchorage this Saturday. The date of course is important — 9/11. But it’s the dual appearance of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin that has led to all kinds of questions. The most common have to do with politics. Will Palin announce a presidential bid? Will Beck? Is this a new dream ticket? Would this be the worst ticket ever? Will they sing?
I’ve posed some of these questions to Glenn Beck and I did receive a response of sorts. More on that in a moment."

An audit completed by a private firm shows that Al Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN) is in such poor financial shape that it might not survive. The audit was sanctioned by NAN, which reviewed the organizations 2008 records, the most recent available.
According to a copy of the audit obtained by the New York Post, the firm, KBL, concluded: “The organization has suffered recurring decreases in net assets — and has been dependent upon advances from related parties and the nonpayment of payroll tax obligations — to maintain continuity. … These circumstances create substantial doubt about the organization’s ability to continue.”"

The party line that we are likely to be hearing from now until the November elections is that Obama 'inherited' the big federal budget deficits and that he has to 'clean up the mess' left in the economy by the Republicans. This may convince those who want to be convinced, but it will not stand up under scrutiny."

Last year, even as he struggled through the worst of the recession, Chris Upham said revenue at his District-based real estate and construction businesses doubled -- allowing him to hire two agents.
But Upham said he hasn't increased his staff thus far in 2010 and he doesn't expect to for the remainder of the year.
That's because his taxes rose sevenfold. And he said he anticipates they'll increase again if the Bush tax cuts for people earning $250,000 and above expire at the end of the year."

In an otherwise thoughtful and insightful post about what he saw on the Mall last weekend, Nick Gillespie makes the odd assertion that, despite being 'in some ways... proto-libertarian' '[t]he organizers and the attendees are not part of the Leave Us Alone coalition.'
The term 'Leave Us Alone coalition' was coined by Grover Norquist as a discription of the coalitional structure of the right. The idea is that gun owners, economic conservatives, homeschoolers and so forth can support one another's goals because the common strand is a desire to have less government intervention in their lives, whereas the left is structured around a 'Takings coalition' that seeks to divide up government resources amongst themselves."
