Margaret Thatcher on the Gap Between Rich and Poor | Axis of Right

Margaret Thatcher on the Gap Between Rich and Poor | Axis of Right:

I’ve always wondered why liberals were fascinated with the gap between rich and poor as a measure of prosperity. On its face, such a measure is nothing more than comparing apples to oranges. Every logical person knows that a more accurate method of measuring prosperity within an income bracket is to compare that income bracket’s situation at a point in the past with that same income bracket’s situation in the present. Focusing on what someone else has says nothing of one’s own situation. Margaret Thatcher always knew that."

This is what "they" do because they think we are all stupid...
They close pools in a heat wave, they lay off teachers, fire fighters, police....they NEVER make a meaningful cut to their "kingdoms" - just cut something that hits home and will get the most play by the media and the most visibility.
They think you'll say it's OK - raise our taxes!!!!
We aren't that stupid...you all are waking the sleeping giant....we WILL remember in November!

Mr. Obama has gone back on the campaign trail to try to sell his health care reform to the nation. Mostly hand-picked, sympathetic attendees have been showing up to his town hall meetings. Letter to the editor: Government cannot be our 'brother's keeper' - GloucesterTimes.com, Gloucester, MA:

The recent letter to this newspaper from Dean Burgess (Times, Saturday, Aug. 15) prompts me to write.

Mr. Burgess seems to want to persuade his fellow citizens that his view of his rights and responsibilities as a citizen is the better one, and while I do not necessarily concur in all respects, he certainly has every right to make his case.

But the issue of whether we are, each of us, our brother's keeper has been wrestled with since biblical times, and if we are closer to a consensus answer to the philosophical questions raised, that happy state of affairs is not apparent to me."

Doug Casey - The must read libertarian quote of the month... maybe the year

Doug Casey - The must read libertarian quote of the month... maybe the year:

I've often quoted and commented on H.L. Mencken here over the years. In my view, the man is a hero and a genius. But I've never referenced Murray Rothbard, who's certainly in the same class.

His words below, where he's speaking about Mencken, resonated with me as I contemplated whether to go to New Orleans this year for a debate with Howard Dean and Karl Rove (more on that event here). It may resonate with you as well:

"Any man who is an individualist and a libertarian in this day and age has a difficult row to hoe. He finds himself in a world marked, if not dominated, by folly, fraud, and tyranny. He has, if he is a reflecting man, three possible courses of action open to him..."

To explain why the Obama health-care proposal pitched the nation’s politicians into town-hall hell, we would like to call to the stand an expert on how things in life can sometimes go wrong—Mr. Billy Joel.

Using a song years ago to sort through the complexities of a relationship in trouble, the Piano Man repeated the same simple one-word truth: 'It's a matter of trust.'

Instead of whining about conspiracies, the average congressman getting yelled at this summer by his own constituents might ask: How come these people don't trust me?"

New Rx for Health Plan: Split Bill - WSJ.com: "The White House and Senate Democratic leaders, seeing little chance of bipartisan support for their health-care overhaul, are considering a strategy shift that would break the legislation into two parts and pass the most expensive provisions solely with Democratic votes.

The idea is the latest effort by Democrats to escape the morass caused by delays in Congress, as well as voter discontent crystallized in angry town-hall meetings. Polls suggest the overhaul plans are losing public support, giving Republicans less incentive to go along."

Islamic lands that were occupied by the enemies will once again become Islamic...We proclaim that we will conquer Rome, like Constantinople was conquered once, and as it will be conquered again.'- Ali Al-Faqir, the Jordanian Minister for Religious Endowment"

Most would agree that Judeo-Christian values are consistent with Anglo-American tradition. Can the same be said of Islam? Even Muslims don't think so. The chief Justice of London's Sharia Court made this chilling statement:

If Sharia is implemented then you can turn this country into a haven of peace...Once a thief's hand is cut off, nobody is going to steal. Once an adulterer is stoned, nobody is going to commit this crime at all. This is why we say we want to offer it to British society.

Statements like this have not stopped prominent British figures from endorsing Sharia. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Protestant equivalent of the Pope, called Sharia "unavoidable."

You're A Racist! The Ultimate Emotional Intimidation

This method of labeling every opinion against Obama's AGENDA as Racist - to try and silence America - is driving me crazy! When I look at the President - I see a man with a completely differing view of our country and what our Founding Fathers dreamed and fought for than mine. THAT'S IT!!!
Right now, I don't care if you are from Mars....just stop the madness! The Far Left REFUSES to have a "conversation" about this...in spite of what Barney Frank says.
You don't agree - boycott Whole Foods, Boycott Glenn Beck...destroy lives, destroy businesses....instead of just sitting around the arena of ideas and finding the best combination...none of our Founding Fathers got everything they wanted either....however they bowed to the greater good. Time to take a lesson from that. There are so many good IDEAS out there....let's judge them on their merits - not their party affiliation.

Last week, Barack Obama treated us to a traveling road show crusading for his heath care overhaul plan. Whether it is their petitions, which always suspiciously seem to have '75,000 signatures' (#1) (#2), or whether it is company after company we actually SPEAK to who deny their claims and then continue to place ads with Beck, such as Roche's AccuChek, placing ads on Beck on every show since their supposed 'boycott', and denying it to us as well by email."

Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) is now pushing a new idea: the insurance co-op. 'A co-op has some appeal because it is a nonprofit alternative,' Conrad says. AARP loses members over health care stance - USATODAY.com:

WASHINGTON (AP) — About 60,000 senior citizens have quit AARP since July 1 due to the group's support for a health care overhaul, a spokesman for the organization said Monday.

The membership loss suggests dissatisfaction on the part of AARP members at a time when many senior citizens are concerned about proposed cuts to Medicare providers to help pay for making health care available for all. But spokesman Drew Nannis said it wasn't unusual for the powerful, 40 million-strong senior citizens' lobby to shed members in droves when it's advocating on a controversial issue."

VANCOUVER — Vancouver patients needing neurosurgery, treatment for vascular diseases and other medically necessary procedures can expect to wait longer for care, NDP health critic Adrian Dix said Monday.

Dix said a Vancouver Coastal Health Authority document shows it is considering chopping more than 6,000 surgeries in an effort to make up for a dramatic budgetary shortfall that could reach $200 million.

“This hasn’t been announced by the health authority … but these cuts are coming,” Dix said, citing figures gleaned from a leaked executive summary of “proposed VCH surgical reductions.”"

Obama Care Dirty Secret #1 (Faith and Family)

Obama Care Dirty Secret #1 (Faith and Family):

FAITH AND FAMILY 'Dirty secret No. 1 in Obamacare is about the government's coming into homes and usurping parental rights over child care and development. It's outlined in sections 440 and 1904 of the House bill (Page 838), under the heading 'home visitation programs for families with young children and families expecting children.' The programs (provided via grants to states) would educate parents on child behavior and parenting skills. The bill says that the government agents, 'well-trained and competent staff,' would 'provide parents with knowledge of age-appropriate child development in cognitive, language, social, emotional, and motor domains ... modeling, consulting, and coaching on parenting practices,' and 'skills to interact with their child to enhance age-appropriate development.' The American Spectator : Don't Forget Cap and Trade:

Amid the public outrage surrounding health care reform, another issue of equal importance for the average American has been nearly forgotten: the upcoming Senate debate on the Waxman-Markey 'cap and trade' bill. This bill attempts to 'cap' -- that is cut -- U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases by forcing all energy producers to pay for expensive emissions permits, which can be traded on the basis of need and cost. The idea is that making fossil fuel-based energy less affordable create incentives for investment in low-carbon energy supplies, or energy-efficient equipment, that otherwise would be prohibitively expensive."

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made.

'We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize,' Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

'We know that there must be change,' she said. 'We're all running flat out, we're all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands.'"

The first two servants put that which their master had given them to good use, and doubled his money while he was away.
