High and Low Finance - Why So Glum? History Suggests a Strong Recovery - NYTimes.com:
Why is good news being received with such doubt? Why is “new normal” the currently popular economic phrase, signifying that growth will be subpar for an extended period, and that the old normal is no longer something to be expected?
It is possible, of course, that I am wrong and the prevalent pessimism is correct. Many economic indicators, including Thursday’s retail sales report, are looking up, but that does not prove the recovery will be self-sustaining. There are issues relating to over-indebted consumers and local governments. The housing collapse will have an impact for some time."

Initial jobless claims increase unexpectedly - Yahoo! Finance:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of newly laid-off workers seeking unemployment benefits rose last week, a sign that jobs remain scarce even as the economy recovers.
The Labor Department said Thursday that first-time claims increased by 18,000 in the week ending April 3, to a seasonally adjusted 460,000. That's worse than economists' estimates of a drop to 435,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters."

WASHINGTON -- The times truly are out of joint when the most important IPO -- initial public offering -- of 2010 could come from what was American capitalism's iconic corporation for most of its 102 years. Andrew Bary, writing in Barron's, says General Motors 'may go public in the second half of this year, and its stock market value could top $50 billion, more than Ford's $40 billion.'
This is justice under today's state capitalism: Ford took on $23.6 billion in debt to avoid becoming dependent on Washington, whereas GM shed much of its debt by becoming dependent. Washington, Bary explains, turned most of its $50 billion loan to GM into 60.8 percent ownership, the United Auto Workers got 17.5 percent for forgoing a $20 billion health care claim against the company, and Canada's government got an 11.7 percent stake for $9 billion.

The American Spectator : The Color of Tea
When I look at Barack Obama....I see a liberal.
I see a FAR LEFT LIBERAL.
I don't see a black man....I could care less if he was from MARS! I do not see the man anymore, I just see his policy's and what I feel and know they have the potential to do to this country.
When I look at most Republicans right now...I see STUPID. That my friend, as no color....is not racist...I see STUPID. When I look at the White/Black/Green/Asian/American Congress...I see no color.....
Actually - NONE at all...not passion, not skin....not ANYTHING.
What I again see is blind ignorance to the electorate...and THAT has no color.
I AM a member of the Tea Party....and proud of it...because my goal is to see America come back from the abyss. We will remember in November.....
The American Spectator : The Color of Tea:
Is calling Tea Party activists racist the best liberals can do?
Consider the thoughts of the inaptly named openmind82 in a post titled 'Is the Tea Party or conservs the modern day Klan?' on the Daily Kos:
When I hear words yelled like, 'Faggot, Nigger' or politicians being cursed and spit on, then one has to believe it's no longer about politics, but about something else. And it's RACISM, it's always been about racism, you know it, I know it, and the media knows or at least they pretend not to."

Getting Gas Wrong | FrontPage Magazine:
In an economy full of problems there are still a few high points. One of them, as you may have noticed if you pay attention to your utility bills, is that natural gas prices are relatively low. Back in mid-2008, natural gas prices hit record highs. The market reacted as it is supposed to: exploration took off, production increased and now, almost two years later, the cost of natural gas has stabilized at a comfortable level, amid normal seasonal variations. We shouldn’t have to worry about this sector of the economy, but there is a dark cloud looming on the horizon in the form of yet another environmental initiative that the Obama administration is pushing forward, one that has the potential to cut domestic natural gas production, cost us jobs and revenue and force energy prices upward."

American Thinker: President Obama Needs to Prove His Constitutional Eligibility to Be Commander-in-Chief:
Last week, I entered Walter Reed Army Hospital to notify the Department of Defense that I would refuse to obey any orders from my commanding officers -- including President Obama -- until the president produces his original birth certificate. After nearly eighteen years of wearing the military uniform of the country I have proudly served, including overseas assignments in imminent danger/combat areas in Bosnia and Afghanistan, I felt compelled to take this step."

Last week, on March 21st, Congress enacted a new Intolerable Act. Congress passed the Health Care bill - or I should say, one political party passed it - over a swelling revolt by the American people. The reform is an atrocity. It mandates that every American must buy health insurance, under IRS scrutiny. It sets up an army of federal bureaucrats who ultimately decide for you how you should receive Health Care, what kind, and how much...or whether you don't qualify at all. Never has our government claimed the power to decide when each of us has lived well enough or long enough to be refused life-saving medical assistance."

As time goes on it is increasingly clear that a contrivance designed to defame the Tea Party and drive people from them was the base of charges that Tea Party demonstrators hurled homophobic and racist epithets and spat at Congressmen as they passed by to vote for the horrific ObamaCare Act.
A less credulous press would have exposed that immediately. A more honorable press would by now have conceded the error of its reporting."

Kids Feel Pinch of Parents' Unemployment - WSJ.com:
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—When Maurice Johnson was laid off a year ago from his six-figure salary as a managing director at GE Capital, it wasn't his future he was worried about.
It was his children's.
The family income of the Johnsons is a fifth of what it used to be. And the children are about to feel the pain. Mr. Johnson's two oldest are attending his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University, at an annual cost of $50,000 apiece. And his youngest daughter, 15 years old, recently began her own college search. Mr. Johnson isn't sure whether he'll be able to help her to go to college, or even to get the older kids to graduation."

Some years ago, my sister wrote from Milwaukee to tell me that Lauren, the daughter of a friend of hers, was going to be interning for the summer in Washington and asked if I might look after her. The girl is a brilliant mathematician, and the program offered her housing, so she spent a very short time with us. But the following summer, after her freshman year in college where she was a classmate of my son's, she stayed with us while enrolled in another program at NSA."

Obama's 17-minute, 2,500-word response to woman's claim of being 'over-taxed':
CHARLOTTE - Even by President Obama's loquacious standards, an answer he gave here on health care Friday was a doozy.
Toward the end of a question-and-answer session with workers at an advanced battery technology manufacturer, a woman named Doris stood to ask the president whether it was a 'wise decision to add more taxes to us with the health care' package.
'We are over-taxed as it is,' Doris said bluntly."
