Letter to the editor: Government cannot be our 'brother's keeper' - GloucesterTimes.com, Gloucester, MA
Letter to the editor: Government cannot be our 'brother's keeper' - GloucesterTimes.com, Gloucester, MA:
The recent letter to this newspaper from Dean Burgess (Times, Saturday, Aug. 15) prompts me to write.
Mr. Burgess seems to want to persuade his fellow citizens that his view of his rights and responsibilities as a citizen is the better one, and while I do not necessarily concur in all respects, he certainly has every right to make his case.
But the issue of whether we are, each of us, our brother's keeper has been wrestled with since biblical times, and if we are closer to a consensus answer to the philosophical questions raised, that happy state of affairs is not apparent to me."
