Daily Kos: State of the Nation
This would make a great movie. Two Japanese couriers are stopped and searched trying to cross into Switzerland from Italy with 134 Billion in US bearer bonds. The bonds were hidden in a secret compartment of a suitcase.
Yes, officials are determining if these are counterfeit or legitimate. If real, Italy stands to collect 40 Billion dollars as that is the penalty on the 134 billion amount.
These bonds (#249 500 million notes) are bearer bonds, that is like a check drawn on the U.S. Treasury, payable to the holder.
You just can't make this stuff up,but this story has had almost no exposure by the MSM in this country."
Obama's Health Care Reform: The Demise of Federalism
Flexibility in Name Only: States have played a significant role in developing unique and innovative approaches to address the health care needs of their citizens. During the 08 campaign, then-candidate Obama promoted the idea of state flexibility, but as President he replaced this embrace of flexibility with an embrace of federal standards. Obama has already taken numerous steps to roll back many of the flexibilities extended to states in administering Medicaid and SCHIP."

Bonaparte famously said to 'never ascribe to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence.'
Thus stands the Kennedy health care bill, placeholder for the hard left dream of a government takeover of the American health system. The bill is a taxpayer-supported monument to the lethal stupidity of this statist objective that will leave Americans with fewer choices, more government control over medical decisions, higher taxes, and a smaller private health insurance market (mostly union health plans paid for by taxes on the health benefits of non-union workers) that punishes efforts to reward healthy behavior."
American Thinker: Obama's Real Agenda: Israel's Dimona Nuclear Facility
I understand those who protest that some countries have weapons that others do not. No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons. That is why I strongly reaffirmed America's commitment to seek a world in which no nations hold nuclear weapons. And any nation - including Iran - should have the right to access peaceful nuclear power if it complies with its responsibilities under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. That commitment is at the core of the Treaty, and it must be kept for all who fully abide by it. And I am hopeful that all countries in the region can share in this goal.'

Analysis: Doctors' boos show Obama's tough road
For all the young president's popularity, the response he got Monday from doctors at an American Medical Association meeting was a sign his road is only going to get rockier as he tries to sell his plan to overhaul the nation's health care system.
The boos erupted when Obama told the doctors in Chicago he wouldn't try to help them win their top legislative priority—limits on jury damages in medical malpractice cases."

Since his election, President Obama has angered some opponents of his predecessor's use of executive power in the arena of national security. His administration's invocation of the state secrets privilege, his decision not to release detainee abuse photos, and his use of military tribunals to try terrorism suspects have all sparked the ire of the civil liberties community.
Today, Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) resurrected an issue that posed the same problem for Obama during the 2008 campaign: government wiretapping."
“Conservatives” Are Single-Largest Ideological Group
PRINCETON, NJ -- Thus far in 2009, 40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s."

Willie Whitelaw, a genial old buffer who served as Margaret Thatcher’s deputy for many years, once accused the Labour party of going around Britain stirring up apathy. Viscount Whitelaw’s apparent paradox is, in fact, a shrewd political insight, and all the sharper for being accidental. Big government depends, in large part, on going around the country stirring up apathy — creating the sense that problems are so big, so complex, so intractable that even attempting to think about them for yourself gives you such a splitting headache it’s easier to shrug and accept as given the proposition that only government can deal with them."

6/14/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Patriotism, simply defined, is devotion to one's country. In some nations this devotion is expressed more passionately and openly than in others, but loyalty to one's homeland is a natural and common emotion. Such patriotic feeling often lies quietly within the breast of a population and may not have a highly visible expression until times of national tragedy or threat.
For example, America's patriotism sat lightly on the sleeves of a citizenry that had come to feel complacently secure within its borders, but it gained massive public display following the national threat perceived after 9/11.

Observations on the course of events of 15th June 2009 in Tehran
Today [June 15] at 4:01am
xxxxx reports his own observations on the course of events of 15th June
2009 in Tehran
I left my home in Tajrish along with my family at 3 p.m. We went down Valiast
Street which is the main northern-southern avenue in Tehran and entered the Evin
Exp'way which leads to Enghelab Street. We knew that people are supposed to
gather in Enghelab Sq. (Revolution Sq.) at 4 and march toward Azadi Sq. (Freedom
Sq.). From Gisha Bridge onwards, we saw people walking down. Cars were blowing
their horns and people were showing victory sign. We went to Navvab Street and
parked our car at the end of the street. Then we took a taxi to bring us back to the
Enghelab Street. On our way, near Jomhouri Sq. (Republic Sq.), I saw a group of
about 20 militia with long beards and batons on motorbikes. My hand was out of
the car window with a little green ribbon (the sign of reformists) around my finger.
One of the militia told me to throw that ribbon away. I showed him a finger. All of a
sudden, about 15 people attacked me inside the car. They beat me with their
batons and wanted to pull me out. My wife and my daughter who were sitting in the
back seat cried and hold me tight. I also hold myself tight on the chair. They
wanted to shatter the car windows. The driver went out and explained that he is a
taxi and we are his passengers and he has no fault. After about 5 minutes, they left.
My elbow hurts severely. Then, a young man from their group came and kissed my
elbow! I told him: You know, I don't hate you. I am like you with the only difference
that I know more and you are ignorant. He apologized and left.
We joined the crowd in Enghelab Street.
Read carefully:
What I saw today was the most elegant scene I had ever witnessed in my life. The
huge number of people were marching hand in hand in full peace. Silence. Silence
was everywhere. There was no slogan. No violence. Hands were up in victory sign
with green ribbons. People carried placards which read: Silence. Old and young,
man and woman of all social groups were marching cheerfully. This was a
magnificent show of solidarity. Enghelab Street which is the widest avenue in
Tehran was full of people. I was told that the march has begun in Ferdowsi Sq. and
the end of the march was now in Imam Hossein Sq. to the further east of Tehran
while on the other end people had already gathered in Azadi Sq. The length of this
street is about 6 kilometers. The estimate is about 2 million people. On the way, we
passed a police department and a militia (Baseej) base. In both places, the doors
were closed and we could see fully-armed riot police and militia watching the
people from behind the fences. Near Sharif University of Technology where the
students had chased away Ahmadinejad a few days ago, Mirhossein Mousavi (the
reformist elect president) and Karrubi (the other reformist candidate spoke to
people for a few minutes which was received by cries of praise and applause. I felt
proud to find myself among such a huge number of passionate people who were
showing the most reasonable act of protest. Frankly, I didn't expect such a political
maturity from emotional Iranians who easily get excited. My family and I had put
stickers on our mouths to represent the suppression. Placards that people carried
were different; from poems by the national poet Ahmad Shamlu to light-hearted
slogans against Ahmadinejad. Examples include: " To slaughter us/ why did you
need to invite us / to such an elegant party" (Poem by Shamlu). " Hello! Hello! 999?
/ Our votes were stolen" or " The Miracle of the Third Millenium: 2 x 2 = 24
millions" (alluding to the claim by Government that Ahmadinejad obtained 24
million votes) , "Where is my vote?" , " Give me back my vote" and many other.
We arrived in Azadi Square where the entire square was full of population. It is said
that around 500,000 people can be accommodated in this huge square and it was
full. Suddenly we saw smoke from Jenah Freeway and heard the gunshot. People
were scared at first but then went forward. I just heard the gunshots but my sister
who had been on the scene at that part told me later that she saw 4 militia came
out from a house and shot a girl. Then they shot a young boy in his eye and the
bullet came out of his ear. She said that 4 people were shot. At least one person
dead has been confirmed. People arrested one of the Baseeji militia but the three
others ran away when they ran out of bullet. At around 8 we went back on foot. On
the way back people were still in the street and were chanting Allah Akbar (God is
Great).
I was coming home at around 2 a.m. In parkway, I saw about ten buses full of
armed riot police parked on the side of the street. Then I saw scattered militia in
civil clothes with clubs in hand patroling the empty streets. In Tajrish Square, I saw
a very young boy (around 16) with a club who was looking at the cars to see if he
can find something to attack. I don't know how and under what teachings can
young boys change into militia.
I came home. Tomorrow, people will gather again in Valiasr Square for another
peaceful march toward the IRIB building which controls all the media and which
spreads filthy lies. The day before Yesterday, Ahmadinejad had hold his victory
ceremony. Government buses had transported all his supporters from nearby cities.
There was full coverage of that ceremony where fruit juice and cake was plenty. A
maximum of 100,000 had gathered to hear his speech. These included all the
militia and the soldiers and all supporters he could gather by the use of free TV
publicity. Today, at least 2 million came only relying on word of mouth while
reformists have no newspaper, no radio, no TV. All their internet sites are filtered
as well as social networks such as facebook. Text messaging and mobile
communication was also cut off during the demonstration. Since yesterday, the
Iranian TV was announcing that there is no license for any gathering and riot police
will severely punish anybody who may demonstrates. Ahmadinejad called the
opposition as a bunch of insignificant dirt who try to make the taste of victory bitter
to the nation. He also called the western leaders as a bunch of "filthy homosexuals".
All these disgusting remarks was today answered by that largest demonstration
ever. Older people compared the demonstration of today with the Ashura
Demonstration of 1979 which marks the downfall of the Shah regime and even said
that it outnumbered that event.
The militia burnt a house themselves to find the excuse to commit violence. People
neutralized their tactic to a large degree by their solidarity, their wisdom and their
denial to enage in any violent act.
I feel sad for the loss of those young girls and boys. It is said that they also killed 3
students last night in their attack at Tehran University residence halls. I heard that a
number of professors of Sharif University and AmirKabir University (Tehran
Polytechnic) have resigned.
Democracy is a long way ahead. I may not be alive to see that day. With eyes full of
tear in these early hours of Tuesday 16th June 2009, I glorify the courage and
bravery of those martyrs and I hope that their blood will make every one of us more
committed to freedom, to democracy and to human rights.
Viva Freedom, Viva Democracy, Viva Iran

possible. Facebook is filtered and internet is very slow in Iran. Please somebody put
this on facebook.

Why Revive a Deadly Flu Virus? - New York Times
Obama’s issues crumbling
The old recession — that the public says was caused by Bush — shows signs of winding down. But the new recession and/or inflation — triggered by Obama’s massive deficits — is just now coming upon us.
If Obama refuses to cut back on his spending/stimulus plans (despite convincing evidence that Americans are not spending the money), he has three options:
a) He can raise taxes, which will trigger a deeper recession;
b) He can print money, which will trigger huge inflation;
c) He can pay more interest to borrow money, which will send the economy diving down again.
The blame for these outcomes will fall squarely on Obama’s deficit and spending policies. The fact that Americans are aware of these issues, and already disapprove of Obama’s performance on them, indicates that they will be increasingly receptive to blaming him for the “new” recession.

The Obama Surprise
Napolitano: From Dimwit to Visionary
In the past two weeks, the country has seen the bombing of a Starbucks coffee shop in New York City, the arrest of four men for allegedly plotting to blow up synagogues and shoot down planes, the shooting of two soldiers at an Army recruitment center in Arkansas, the assassination of a doctor inside a Kansas church, and the shooting at the Holocaust Museum.... Although these are not all cases of right-wing extremism, each is an example of domestic terrorism.
What rot. The men plotting to blow up synagogues and planes, and the shooter of the two soldiers (one of whom was killed), were jihadists...They had nothing to do with "right-wing extremism." Indeed, if you want to find a government prognostication that accurately foretold them, try the 2007 National Intelligence Estimate from the Director of National Intelligence (not DHS), which predicted a spike in terrorist activities inside the U.S. inspired by foreign jihadist ideology which — because of wide dissemination by the internet and other means — no longer necessarily requires the hands-on participation of established international terrorist organizations like al-Qaeda."

Actually, while the heroism of the Allied troops was astounding, their victory at Normandy was not improbable; it was the result of immense resources, sacrifice and will poured into retaking Europe and winning that war. For the 225 Rangers sent to scale the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc to take out German guns, the probability of any one man surviving was terrible; as Obama noted, only 90 survived. The success of their assault, however, was not merely a matter of luck, but of heroes willing take the colossal risks and pay the cost, so that some could get through."

HAMPTON – - The Rev. Jeremiah Wright says he does not feel any regrets over his severed relationship with President Barack Obama, a former member of the Chicago church in which Wright was the longtime pastor.
Wright also said that he had not spoken to his former church member since Obama became president, implying that the White House won't allow Obama to talk to him. He did not indicate whether he had tried to reach Obama.
'Regret for what... that the media went back five, seven, 10 years and spent $4,000 buying 20 years worth of sermons to hear what I've been preaching for 20 years?"
No Energy from this Executive
As I've often said, in the short term, as we transition to renewable energy,' President Obama stated in April, 'we can and should increase our domestic production of oil and natural gas. . . . We still need more oil, we still need more gas. If we've got some here in the United States that we can use, we should find it and do so in an environmentally sustainable way.'
Does anyone believe Obama was serious about this? Given his practice of misdirection--saying one thing, doing another--no one should have. Now, nearly five months into the Obama presidency, it's clear he didn't mean a word of it. His administration is impeding, not promoting, increased production of oil and gas, as it is of coal and nuclear power."
Palin vs. Obama, the Press, comedians, feminists, pop culture...
Sarah Palin is back in the news again, as is Newt. Newt’s presidential hopes are toast; the libs have indelibly demonized him. Sarah, on the other hand, still has a fighting chance.
If Palin wants to be the 2012 nominee, she needs to come out swinging now. She has to redeem herself after the dog-piling she received from the Democrats, the press, the comedians, supposed feminists, and pop culture in general. Even fellow Repubs left her twisting in the wind. Hell, McCain showed more anger at perceived slights against Obama than he did towards the Palin smears."

Barack Obama says shape up now - Carrie Budoff Brown - POLITICO.com: "President Barack Obama eats his vegetables and exercises every day — and he really wants you to do the same.
From the White House garden to his picks for top health jobs, Obama is telling America’s McDonald’s-loving, couch-dwelling, doctor-phobic populace that things are about to change."
Miranda Rights for Terrorists
When 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad was captured on March 1, 2003, he was not cooperative. “I’ll talk to you guys after I get to New York and see my lawyer,” he said, according to former CIA Director George Tenet.
Of course, KSM did not get a lawyer until months later, after his interrogation was completed, and Tenet says that the information the CIA obtained from him disrupted plots and saved lives. “I believe none of these successes would have happened if we had had to treat KSM like a white-collar criminal – read him his Miranda rights and get him a lawyer who surely would have insisted that his client simply shut up,” Tenet wrote in his memoirs."
There is No POTUS without TOTUS
We've put a trademark and patent request in for the 'Oconomy.' This way, Big Guy won't be bound by any of the old, tired, overused terms and indexes to measure America's oconomy. And best of all, it's named after him, like a cool brand name."
Rush: What Obama Inherited
Now, this business about what he inherited drives me batty. He keeps blaming it on his 'predecessor.' No president has ever done that. This is childish. It is immature. It's narcissistic. Let me tell you what Barack Obama 'inherited,' as president of the United States. Barack Obama inherited greatness. He inherited the birthplace of the individual. He inherited the defender of liberty at home and abroad, the United States of America. He inherited American exceptionalism."

American Thinker: Call It What It Is: Rationed Health Care:
Fresh from grabbing much of the U.S. auto and banking industries, the Obama Administration and Congressional Democrats are moving briskly toward nationalized health care.
In a letter to Senate Democrat leaders, President Obama has called for forcing all Americans to have health insurance, employers to offer insurance plans or pay a fine, and to create a government alternative insurance plan."
American Thinker: Dear Senator Cornyn
I feel strongly that our Party has just "left the Building"...
There isn't ONE of them I trust up on The Hill...
The one who interests alot of us the most, Sarah Palin - is maligned by the Old Guard of our own Party..never mind what the Liberals launch at her!
We ( GOP - not James Carville!!! ) snicker at Rush and dismiss Dick Cheney.....Well, there are ALOT of us listening to them...and thinking they are hitting Bull's Eyes everytime they speak. Perhaps it's time YOU listened to us....
American Thinker:
Dear Senator Cornyn:
I received your urgent letter today from the National Republican Senatorial Committee. You said that you needed to hear from 'our Party's most trusted supporters, like you, as these important debates get underway in Washington.' Thanks. It feels good to be needed and trusted."

Migration From Global Warming May Exceed All Past Displacements - Bloomberg.com
"Desertification in Mexico, Mali and Niger is already causing migration while in Bangladesh increased coastal flooding is expected to increase the movement of people, according to the study by the UN University, Columbia University and the charity Care International.
“Flooding, intense storms, or droughts, or more gradual but significant changes in regional climates place great stress on livelihood systems,” the 36-page report said. “The mass of people on the move will likely be staggering and surpass any historical antecedent.”
Obama Tells American Businesses to Drop Dead
“It makes U.S. jobs more expensive,” Ballmer said, “We’re better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S.” If Microsoft, perhaps our most competitive company, has to abandon the U.S. in order to continue to thrive, who exactly is going to stay?
At issue is Obama’s policy to end the deferral of multinational taxation."

Why is radio and TV crybaby Glenn Beck purging every last tear from his body?” An announcer poses the question as the camera pushes in on a photo of the Fox News personality's husky boy face wracked with sobs. “Because the more miserable he is now... the funnier he’ll be June 4th.”"

So that Every Firm Needs a Bailout | Bloomberg.com
I’ve finally figured out the Obama economic strategy. President Barack Obama and his team have been having so much fun wielding dictatorial power while rescuing “failed” firms, that they have developed a scheme to gain the same power over every business. The plan is to enact policies that are so anticompetitive that every firm needs a bailout."
American Thinker: Obama Care: Robbing From Peter to Pay Paul
American Thinker: Obama Care: Robbing From Peter to Pay Paul:
President Obama is committed to fixing health care. He wants to make health care affordable for all Americans. In much the same way, Barney Frank and company wanted to make houses affordable for all Americans -- and we know how well that idea turned out. Mr. Obama has wisely offered more than $600 billion dollars as a deposit for his idea. Yes, he has frugally set aside money he does not have. He has borrowed money he can never hope to repay, perhaps printed money as well, as a deposit toward his idea, or more precisely his ideology."
American Thinker: Who Has Lost Their Way?
In the first five months of his presidency, Obama has traveled the world apologizing for the transgressions of America committed by the 43 previous administrations. He has used terms such as we 'went off course,' 'lost our way,' and 'made mistakes.' In the most recent leg of the never-ending apology tour, Obama addressed the Muslim World with one of the wordiest requests for forgiveness offered to date."
Canada's ObamaCare Precedent - WSJ.com
Congressional Democrats will soon put forward their legislative proposals for reforming health care. Should they succeed, tens of millions of Americans will potentially be joining a new public insurance program and the federal government will increasingly be involved in treatment decisions.
Not long ago, I would have applauded this type of government expansion. Born and raised in Canada, I once believed that government health care is compassionate and equitable.
It is neither."
McGurn: The Media Fall for Phony 'Jobs' Claims - WSJ.com
Tony Fratto is envious.
Mr. Fratto was a colleague of mine in the Bush administration, and as a senior member of the White House communications shop, he knows just how difficult it can be to deal with a press corps skeptical about presidential economic claims. It now appears, however, that Mr. Fratto's problem was that he simply lacked the magic words -- jobs 'saved or created.'"

Why the West will hate itself for ignoring Kanya Kusano | The Cultural Intellect
Here are some highlights from the report:
• CO2 emissions, or The Greenhouse Effect, were not responsible before: There was a similar rise in temperature from 1800-1850, but CO2 was a non-issue at this time. Emissions did not pick up until 1946, when the world-wide industrial revolution was in full-swing.
• And they’re not responsible now: The global warming that originally got everyone up in arms not so long ago has actually since stopped or declined since 2001. CO2 emissions, however, have continued to climb virtually unabated during that time.
• The UN’s models are flawed: “There is no prediction of this halt in global warming in IPCC simulations. The halt of the increase in temperature, and slight downward trend is ’something greater than the Greenhouse Effect,’ but it is in effect. What that ’something’ is, is natural variability.”
