Dazed Democrats rethink entire strategy - Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen - POLITICO.com:

Usually, the tendency among political reporters and operatives alike is to overreact and overinterpret elections.

And there are caveats to the stunner in Massachusetts. Yes, this was a special election, which often produces unusual results. Yes, Democrat Martha Coakley ran a timid, sometimes terrible, campaign for Ted Kennedy’s old Senate seat. And it’s true that Massachusetts is not as liberal as many people assumed."

TSA nominee withdraws amid 'political agenda':

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's choice to lead the Transportation Security Administration withdrew his name Wednesday, a blow to an administration trying to explain how a man could attempt to blow up a commercial airliner on Christmas Day.

In a statement, Erroll Southers said he was pulling out because his nomination had become a lightning rod for those with a political agenda. Obama had tapped Southers, a former FBI agent, to lead the TSA in September but his confirmation has been blocked by Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, who says he was worried that Southers would allow TSA employees to have collective bargaining rights."

Obama vs. Brown a debate worth watching - Lowell Sun Online

Obama vs. Brown a debate worth watching - Lowell Sun Online:

State Sen. Scott Brown should have challenged Barack Obama to a debate.

One state senator to another.

They could have held it at the Statehouse, in the chambers of the Massachusetts Senate, at Northeastern, or even at the John F. Kennedy Library, where Brown cleaned Martha Coakley's clock a week ago.

If the president took the time to come to Massachusetts to campaign for Coakley on Sunday -- in the middle of the NFL playoff games between the Cowboys and the Vikings and the Jets and the Chargers -- surely he could have found a half-hour to have faced off with Brown."

The president planned to propose Thursday a levy of 15 basis points, or 0.15 percent, on the liabilities of large financial institutions to make sure every dollar spent from the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program to rescue Wall Street firms, auto companies and mortgage holders is either repaid or paid for. Unsubstantiated rumors that Vice President Joe Biden had suddenly gone a little loopy and ordered some of his official meetings opened to at least cursory public or media attention were just that -- unsubstantiated rumors.

A: To paraphrase Shakespeare, it’s sound and fury signifying nothing. I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old. These private exchanges between these scientists do not in any way cause any question about the scientific consensus."

Martha Coakley: Too Immoral for Teddy Kennedy’s Seat - HUMAN EVENTS

Amen....finally the Massachusetts republican ticket has a gentleman on it whom we can feel good about. A decent hard working realist to stand against the tsunami of intellectual insanity spewing from the fountainhead we call Capital Hill. Remember this on election day.....vote Scott Brown - period...dot. It has to begin with us....

Martha Coakley: Too Immoral for Teddy Kennedy’s Seat - HUMAN EVENTS:

In Tuesday's primary election, Massachusetts Democrats chose as their Senate nominee a woman who kept a clearly innocent man in prison in order to advance her political career.

Martha Coakley isn't even fit for the late Teddy Kennedy's old seat. (What is it about this particular Senate seat?)

During the daycare/child molestation hysteria of the '80s, Gerald Amirault, his mother, Violet, and sister, Cheryl, were accused of raping children at the family's preschool in Malden, Mass., in what came to be known as the second-most notorious witch trial in Massachusetts history."

Pajamas Media New Evidence of Saddam-Terrorism Links

Pajamas Media New Evidence of Saddam-Terrorism Links:

The rationale for pushing forward in Afghanistan is that it is the “right” war, the “war of necessity,” the true base of the terrorists that attacked us on 9/11 and would try to attack us again. Essentially, those opposing the war in Iraq while supporting the war in Afghanistan try to frame the latter conflict as justified in every way the former is not. As the war in Iraq ever so slowly comes to a close and the history books begin being written, new evidence has emerged to challenge the narrative that the war in Iraq was something different than the war on terror."

TheCypressTimes : SLEEPER CELLS AWAKENED, AMERICA TAKEN:

In all my life I have never seen such fear and concern for the future of America as I do now. I have thought long and hard back into my childhood, wondering if there was something I have overlooked. Was there a time when Americans were truly afraid of losing their constitutional freedoms and rights? Was there a time when Americans feared their own government so much that they began building safe houses within their homes, food storage rooms, and making plans for the worst possible scenario?"

One of my all-time favorite novels is Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, later made into an Oscar-winning film. Set in an institution for psychological patients, Cuckoo's Nest is a cautionary tale about all institutions -- schools, churches, businesses, government bureaucracies, etc. It dramatizes the horrors of what can happen when those in charge hijack an institution and place their own ambitions and lust for power, prestige, and control above the welfare of the very people whom the institution was created to help."

The draft of the treaty encompasses 181 pages and recites that it shall be the obligation of the developed countries (Europe, United States, Japan, Australia, etc.) to pay the developing countries (China, India, Africa, etc.) huge reparations, annual sums to erase poverty and to share technology with them. The House of Representatives on December 3rd passed House Resolution 4154, which is deceptively called the 'Permanent Estate Tax Relief Act.' This bill is part of the general war by the Democratic Party on self-employed Americans, family farms, and home businesses. Does this sound extreme? Day Fourteen and Counting

Day Fourteen and Counting:

Alexandria, VA – For the fourteenth straight day, the three broadcast networks have failed to report on the great and growing ClimateGate scandal on their weekday morning or evening news programs. How to explain this?

Perhaps it is that ABC, NBC and CBS have not yet heard of the story, despite two weeks of non-stop reporting on and discussion of ClimateGate in a whole host of media outlets.

Perhaps the broadcast networks only trust their fellow liberal press outlets, like the New York Times. Perhaps they don’t realize the Times exhibited journalistic diligence on ClimateGate, with a front page story the day the story broke."

These poor men were shot, burned, and then their bodies were desecrated, hung from a bridge over the Euphrates River.

But instead of hailing the SEALs as heroes for bringing this vicious murderer to justice, three of them have been brought up on charges."

And later, when Lauer questioned if there were enough 'resources' to counter the Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan Rove fired back that any one in the Obama administration was in no position to criticize:"

Why Are Conservatives So Quick To Eat Their Own? NewsReal Blog:

I must admit that this entire controversy (conservative feeding frenzy?) surrounding Governor Mike Huckabee’s commutation of Maurice Clemmons’ sentence back in 2000 makes me a bit queasy. Am I the only one that thinks the vitriol and condemnation of Huckabee over this is way over-the-top? Let’s take a step back from the beat-down for just a moment and examine the situation objectively, shall we? Most everyone knows the facts surrounding the killings by now. If you don’t, see here and here. All reasonable people can agree that this is a horrific crime which could have been prevented if the criminal justice system had worked properly. My prayers and deepest sympathy are with the families of these slain officers. Nevertheless, to single out Huckabee as the party most responsible in this matter is patently absurd."

Opinion: Searching in Vain for the Obama Magic - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International:

Never before has a speech by President Barack Obama felt as false as his Tuesday address announcing America's new strategy for Afghanistan. It seemed like a campaign speech combined with Bush rhetoric -- and left both dreamers and realists feeling distraught.

One can hardly blame the West Point leadership. The academy commanders did their best to ensure that Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama's speech would be well-received.

Just minutes before the president took the stage inside Eisenhower Hall, the gathered cadets were asked to respond 'enthusiastically' to the speech. But it didn't help: The soldiers' reception was cool."

The White House Takes On Politico

The White House Takes On Politico - The Atlantic Politics Channel:

It's not just Fox News that's become subject of White House derision. The following is an excerpt from a joke e-mail that is circulating among White House staffers. It's a response, of sorts, to the analytical essay that Politico editor-in-chief John Harris wrote about the 'seven stories that Barack Obama doesn't want told.' It's fairly caustic -- and, truth be told, the White House maintains good relationships with Politico reporters and has been known to try to agenda-set by dishing out a few tips to the publication. But make no mistake: many on the White House senior staff dislike Politico's brand of journalism, and they do not like the effect that Politico's metabolism has on the rest of the press corps, including this (i.e., my own) corner of it. Still, don't read too much into this. There's been plenty of back-and-forth between the White and the Politico, and the White House accepts the role -- which is often substantial -- that Politico plays in the newsgathering process."

NEW DOCUMENTS REVEAL: White House, NEA Had Big Plans In Motion Before Being Exposed

Big Hollywood - Blog Archive - NEW DOCUMENTS REVEAL: White House, NEA Had Big Plans In Motion Before Being Exposed:

Inciting is usually a telegraphed endeavor, with rhetoric yelled to an audience through a megaphone held by a coarse, weathered hand. But it can also be delivered subtly, with a soft voice and a wink, in the name of doing good.

Subtlety is necessary if a federal agency intends to incite activists to take action on the hot issues of the moment. This approach is what we see when we look at the most recent documents acquired by a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request of the controversial August 10th conference call."

Four and a half years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled it was OK for the city of New London, Conn., to force 15 working-class families out of their homes to make way for a riverfront hotel and office complex. The high court decided taking the homes by eminent domain was allowable so the city could enhance its tax revenues.

The Supreme Court was the last resort for the families, who thought their homes and neighborhood should not be sacrificed on the altar of the corporate gods.

Just how did all that litigation turn out for New London, its residents and its tax base?"

Short answer; no. His well known heart problems would kill any chances of success. I seriously doubt questions about his health could ever be put to rest no matter how many doctors swore he was fit.

Beyond that, there is no doubt that Cheney would make a great president. He would be the 'Anti-Obama,' possessing qualities exactly the opposite of our current president while outshining him in wisdom and fortitude.

Leaving the health issue aside, could he win the nomination? Jon Meacham of Newsweek takes a serious look at why Cheney would be a good candidate:"

7 stories Barack Obama doesn't want told - John F. Harris - POLITICO.com:

Presidential politics is about storytelling. Presented with a vivid storyline, voters naturally tend to fit every new event or piece of information into a picture that is already neatly framed in their minds.

No one understands this better than Barack Obama and his team, who won the 2008 election in part because they were better storytellers than the opposition. The pro-Obama narrative featured an almost mystically talented young idealist who stood for change in a disciplined and thoughtful way. This easily outpowered the anti-Obama narrative, featuring an opportunistic Chicago pol with dubious relationships who was more liberal than he was letting on."
