Even Hillary agrees! Economics 101: Step 1
Even Hillary agrees! Economics 101: Step 1:
If Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned last week that our rising national debt 'poses a national security threat,' should President Obama or any in his administration be suggesting any economic plan that increases it in any way?
At last week's Council on Foreign Relations, or CFR, meeting, Secretary of State Clinton was supposed to be espousing 'a new American moment' and boosting U.S. global leadership around the world, but she ended up dropping the country further in the tank (the debt tank that is), during an off-script Q&A time after her 45-minute speech.
In response to a question from the president of the CFR, Richard Haass, on the impact of a monstrous and crippling national debt, Clinton veered from the Obama administration's typical economic path. She juxtaposed herself against its plan that massively increases our debt and deficit and sounded the fiscal alarm, 'We are losing the ability to charter our own destiny.'"

November is coming!
November is coming!:
From Alaska to Florida, from Delaware to Nevada, candidates dedicated to stopping big government overspending, job-killing government meddling in the economy and nanny-state intrusions into every corner of our once 'private' lives are on the ballot in the November election.
Pundits of every stripe are pouring over the latest poll numbers trying to explain the prairie fire of voter discontent and trying to predict the outcome of an Election Day coming at us like a rushing freight train.
Although I'm a talk-show host, the time for just talk is over – the time for action is here."

'Unpaid pay czar' got 6-figure salary:
Contrary to press reports that he would not be compensated, uncovered Treasury Department documents reveal President Obama's pay czar, Kenneth Feinberg, received a $120,830 annual salary.
The documents were obtained by the public interest group Judicial Watch in a Freedom of Information Act request filed July 20.
Following Judicial Watch's discovery, Feinberg then released a statement saying he did, indeed, receive the salary, but that he gave the money back."

Colin Powell Says Ground Zero Mosque Should Go Forward: "Gen. Colin Powell, the retired chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and secretary of state under President George W. Bush,
said Thursday that the Islamic community center and mosque planned near Ground Zero in New York City should go forward. Powell made his comments during an appearance on ABC's 'The View.'
'The terrorists win if we become terrified and . . . change who we are and what we are,' Powell said, as he argued that it is crucial for Americans to remain true to the values that set the country apart from the rest of the world."

Some of those who try to make some sense — or science — of politics for a living have been scratching their heads about Barack Obama lately. There was the ostentatious vacation, followed by the apparent boredom with the Iraq address the president didn’t even have to give, and certainly not in the way that he did — as a formal, evening, Oval Office address. There was the wading (botched and incoherent) into the Ground Zero mosque debate. There is the constant belittling of his Republican critics, lowering the office of the president by attacking the largely unknown house minority leader."

President Obama has suddenly discovered the virtues of deficit reduction: Having spent all the money, he now thinks it would be downright irresponsible of taxpayers not to pick up some of his tab. His defenders would have us believe that every form of fiscal austerity would sink us deeper into the quicksand — except for tax increases on the most productive individuals and profitable small businesses in the country. The rich don’t spend the money, they argue, so why let them keep it if they’re just going to put it in the bank? Apparently, putting your money into banks is Timothy Geithner’s job, not yours."

I believed it would do little to curb meth use, make the purchase of cold products by law-abiding citizens time consuming and inconvenient, and shift methamphetamine production to Mexican drug cartels.
Since the bill passed, seizures of domestic labs dropped while meth use rose, and consumers now wait behind prescription customers just to buy cold pills. Mexican drug cartels increased in power and violence while becoming the primary supplier of methamphetamine to the U.S.
Unfortunately, I was correct on all counts. Yet here we go again."

Obama in just twenty months has developed a reputation for being petulant, unusually sensitive to the normal run-of-the-mill criticism. His latest pushback was his strangest so far: “And they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, it’s just — but it’s true.”
Given that Obama has previously called out talk radio critics by name — Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh — attacked everything from limb-lopping surgeons to vacationing at Las Vegas, and in condescending fashion tsk-tsked those who attend Glen Beck rallies, rural Pennsylvanians, and his own “typical white person” grandmother who raised him, his thin-skin touchiness seems inexplicable."

Nine States Did Not File Initial Claims Data Due To Labor Day, Hundreds Of Thousands Of Estimates In Data "Beat" | zero hedge:
The BLS has announced that as a result of the Labor Day weekend, 9 states (among which the biggest one California) did not report initial claims data to the bean counters, so instead the government had to 'estimate' what the data would have been: yep, estimate, what the data was in these nine states. From Bloomberg: 'For the latest reporting week, nine states didn’t file claims data to the Labor Department in Washington because of the Labor Day holiday earlier this week, a department official told reporters. California and Virginia estimated their figures and the U.S. government estimated the other seven.' Official data is now made up on the fly. This US economic data reporting has just entered the twilight zone. Also, when the data is officially made up, it is not that difficult to get data that is 'better than expected.' The full list of states is: DC, Illinois, Idaho, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Washington. California and Virginia estimated themselves.

It is necessary to remind Republicans of one salient fact about this predicted shift in political strength as a result of the 2010 midterm elections, and it is a fact that can be expressed in just a few words:"

MTA's free pass for labor - NYPOST.com:
By January, straphangers might have to pay $104 for a monthly MetroCard, up from $89 today. In 2013, the card could cost $122.
Walder's kid-glove treatment of labor also comes at the expense of track and station improvements -- and on the heels of deep service cuts that riders must now endure.
But the MTA has already socked riders and taxpayers to help with budget woes: Last year, the agency got a taxpayer-funded bailout of $1.6 billion, mostly via a new levy on downstate jobs, plus $500 million more from riders in higher fares and tolls."

What could be worse news than that public school teacher pensions across the country report an unfunded liability of over $330 billion? How about the fact that these reports understate the size of the liability by a factor of three?

Glenn Beck’s path to unity a rocky road | The Daily Caller:
Glenn Beck’s rally in Washington Saturday was a picture of unity on stage, but that wasn’t easy to accomplish, according to interviews with Christian ministers involved in planning the event.
Beck, a Fox News personality, faced major objections and concerns within the evangelical community prior to the event due to his status as a Mormon who planned to lead a spiritual rally involving tens of thousands of Protestant Christians. Those concerns remain for numerous top Christian leaders."

Reid puts renewables mandate in play, eyes lame-duck energy bill - The Hill's E2-Wire:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday a nationwide renewable-electricity standard, or RES, is “absolutely” in the mix as he tries to salvage energy legislation this year — possibly in a lame-duck session.
Before the August recess, Reid said he doubted an RES — which would require utilities to provide escalating amounts of power from sources like wind and solar energy — could win 60 votes. It was left on the cutting-room floor when Reid unveiled a modest energy bill in late July."

So far, there seems to be no official tally on how many people composed the massive crowd that gathered on 8/28 at the Lincoln Memorial for Glenn Beck’s rally, but he announced onstage that the area around the Reflection Pool (which he said holds about 200,000) and the area behind the Lincoln Memorial (around 250,000-300,000) were full.
