Each of those entities do not serve the individual, they serve the community as a whole. The police are under no obligation to protect you personally; if you need that, you need to hire someone. This intelligence saved lives and prevented terrorist attacks. These detainees also, according to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of al Qaeda members and associates since 2002. The activities of the CIA in carrying out the policies of the Bush Administration were directly responsible for defeating all efforts by al Qaeda to launch further mass casualty attacks against the United States. The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions. President Obama’s decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration’s ability to be responsible for our nation’s security."

Every logical person knows that a more accurate method of measuring prosperity within an income bracket is to compare that income bracket’s situation at a point in the past with that same income bracket’s situation in the present. Mr. Burgess seems to want to persuade his fellow citizens that his view of his rights and responsibilities as a citizen is the better one, and while I do not necessarily concur in all respects, he certainly has every right to make his case.
But the issue of whether we are, each of us, our brother's keeper has been wrestled with since biblical times, and if we are closer to a consensus answer to the philosophical questions raised, that happy state of affairs is not apparent to me."

His words below, where he's speaking about Mencken, resonated with me as I contemplated whether to go to New Orleans this year for a debate with Howard Dean and Karl Rove (more on that event here). It may resonate with you as well:

Most would agree that Judeo-Christian values are consistent with Anglo-American tradition. Can the same be said of Islam? Even Muslims don't think so. The chief Justice of London's Sharia Court made this chilling statement:

Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made.
'We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize,' Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.
'We know that there must be change,' she said. 'We're all running flat out, we're all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands.'"
